WILLEMSTAD - Landhuis Knip is being renovated. Fundashon Museo Tula, which operates Museo Tula in the country house, started this in November and hopes to be finished in March of this year. With this step, the museum can reopen in the course of 2023.
The property is owned by Monumentenzorg, which says it has confidence in the plans of the Museo Tula foundation. Monumentenzorg itself is investing approximately two hundred thousand guilders in the renovation.
Since the bankruptcy of Kas di Kultura in 2020, the Museo Tula has been closed and the mansion is empty. The estate has been under the trustee for almost two years. The latter concluded a purchase agreement with the government regarding the estate in mid-2022.
“We have not been generating rental income at Landhuis Knip for two and a half years now,” explains Marcel Dennert, director of Monumentenzorg Curaçao, “while the costs, including maintenance costs, continue as usual.”
In order to prepare the country house for use as Museo Tula as soon as possible, the foundation has therefore decided not to wait for any funds that will become available for this, but to raise the necessary financing itself to start this maintenance project.
“It is a significant investment and we, therefore, hope to be able to conclude a lease with future users as soon as possible.”
