WILLEMSTAD - As expected, the Council of Ministers approved the proposal for a budget amendment of 1.8 million guilders on Wednesday.
The request for this came from Minister Javier Silvana of Health to guarantee evening, night and weekend care (ANW care) from general practitioners.
The government had previously made several promises to accommodate GPs, which have not been fulfilled. Silvana promised to find a solution quickly because otherwise, the GPs would relinquish their care duties.
The money that is now being released for ANW care amounts to 150,000 guilders. GPs indicate that they need this monthly for irregular services.
Silvania also agreed to a central General Practitioner's Center in the CMC, which has been the subject of much controversy for years. This must be operational by 1 January 2024.
