WILLEMSTAD - Recently, at the square in front of the Coromoto Church, the Government-Owned Entity (UO) Domeinbeheer organized an evening meeting with the Charo community. The goal of the event was to gather the perspectives of Charo residents on various important issues related to potential developments in the Seru Pretu area. This collaborative effort aims to make well-informed and balanced decisions regarding the future development of the mentioned area, working closely with the local residents.

Minister of Spatial Planning, Infrastructure, and Environment (VVRP), Charles Cooper, opened the evening, followed by remarks from Domeinbeheer Director Jaïro Martis. The event also included the participation of Caroline Manuel, Director of the Infrastructure and Urban Planning Sector of VVRP. A team of experts, along with the evening’s moderator, facilitated a workshop where over 85 residents actively participated. Residents not only expressed their concerns but also engaged in interactive group exercises to propose suggestions for the social, economic, and environmental benefit of their community.
At the conclusion of the evening, it was evident that the residents had a strong desire for various developments in the future, including:
Establishing a multifunctional sports field,
Creating a community center,
Improving traffic safety through better lighting,
Organizing activities for senior citizens,
Introducing alternative and sustainable energy solutions, and
Building affordable housing for local residents and social housing for the broader community.
This meeting represents the first step toward maintaining direct communication with the neighborhood.
Domeinbeheer looks back on a successful evening and plans to continue fostering engagement with the Charo community.
