WILLEMSTAD - The two men who robbed a jewelry store in Punda in broad daylight have been sentenced to prison. However, the judge imposed a lower sentence than the prosecution had requested. Since the suspects cooperated with the investigation, admitted guilt, and suffered serious injuries during a citizen's arrest, several months were deducted from their sentences. The driver of the getaway scooter was sentenced to 36 months in prison, while the man who robbed the jewelry store received a 42-month sentence, with 6 months of it suspended.
The men were apprehended at the time thanks to the heroic actions of a civilian. He pulled the robber off the scooter, after which a crowd subdued the suspects. The situation was not without force. One of the suspects still suffers from his injuries.
