Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen misses series due to health issues

LOS ANGELES - Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen will miss the series in Colorado due to health problems, with heart issues once again playing a role. Jansen requires an electrical cardioversion to reset an irregular heartbeat to a normal rhythm.

The Curaçaoan Jansen said after Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers that doctors had to "shock his heart back into rhythm" after three previous trips to Colorado. The most recent incident occurred in 2022 when Jansen was with the Atlanta Braves. Similar incidents happened in 2012 and 2018 when he was pitching for the Dodgers.

“Too often, things happen to me there,” Jansen said. “It started when I went back to Atlanta. I began having problems, and a few weeks later I went into atrial fibrillation again. I’m trying to avoid that now.”

Jurickson Profar

The San Diego Padres recently announced their decision to re-sign Jurickson Profar. Profar, a skilled infielder and outfielder, brings a valuable combination of defensive versatility and offensive capability to the team.

The Curaçaoan Profar originally joined the Padres in 2020 and has since proven his worth as a reliable utility player, according to experts.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the move indicates a mutual desire to continue their relationship, benefiting both Profar’s career and the depth of the Padres' roster. With Profar back, the Padres aim to build on recent successes and further solidify their position as contenders in the NL West.

San Diego Padres fans can look forward to the familiar presence of Jurickson Profar on the field, ready to contribute in various roles and help the team achieve its goals for the upcoming seasons.
