WILLEMSTAD - Environmental and recycling organization Green Force has given a much-needed overhaul to its recycling center, which is located in the parking lot of Van Den Tweel supermarket.
In 2015, the first recycling center for the consumer opened, this was a 20 foot container that stood in the same place as the current one, but then it was Albert Heijn. It turned out to be so popular that already in 2016 a bigger one had to come. On June 4, 2016, the bigger brother opened with a 40 foot container this time. Now almost 6 years later, it was really ready for renovation and upgrading.
For two weeks, the Green Force team worked to remove rust, paint wood, replace wood, paint the entire container and install new mounting plates for the new identification stickers.

The stickers also needed an upgrade, Timo Brouwer, owner of Green Force explains: "you see an evolution in the design of the stickers, we notice from the behavior of people that some things were/are not completely clear and that there had to be some changes to the information given on the decals. That is now done and we hope people will read it carefully so that we can function more optimally. Any mistake they make in using this recycling center means more work for us, often unnecessary".
Plastic recycling is complicated because there are 7 types of plastic. At Green Force and its 4 recycling centers, you can dispose of the two most common types of plastic, namely plastic type 1, PET and plastic type 2, HDPE. You can also dispose of all your plastic caps at this recycling center.
Renovating this recycling center took a lot of effort and a lot of money. Several companies and foundations have put their hands together and helped Green Force with a contribution. Sponsors were the Curaçao Clean Up Foundation, Coca-Cola Foundation, Kooyman, Popular Agencies on behalf of Garnier and Van Den Tweel. The re-design, printing and placement of the stickers was done by Art View.
By recycling plastic through Green Force, it goes off the island and becomes part of new bottles or other attributes. This reduces the use of oil, fossil fuels, helps combat climate change, creates jobs, promotes the export economy and helps the island to become cleaner. All in all positive developments for Curaçao.
Green Force calls on the people of Curaçao to actively inform themselves about recycling and to actively participate in the collection of plastic bottles, plastic caps and aluminum cans. Together we can make Curaçao a clean island and leave it tidy for our many visitors and future generations.
