Local | By Correspondent October 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The eighth edition of the 48 Hour Film Project has kicked off in Curaçao, with a record number of 17 teams participating over the past weekend to create a film in just 48 hours. The competition is open to everyone, from hobbyists to experienced filmmakers, with the chance to compete internationally in 2025 in Seattle. The challenge is for a team to write, film, and edit a short movie over one weekend, with the final product being no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes. The films completed by Sunday are now being judged by a panel of experts.

Each team was given specific tasks on Friday evening, including the requirement to incorporate a prop, a character, and a specific line of dialogue into their film. Teams also received a specific genre that they needed to work within. At 7 PM, the challenge officially began, and the teams had exactly 48 hours to submit their films.

On Thursday, October 10, all submitted films will be screened at The Movies Otrobanda, followed by an award ceremony. The best film from Curaçao will be showcased at the Filmapalooza Film Festival in March 2025 in Seattle, where it will compete against winning films from over 125 cities across more than 45 countries.
