WILLEMSTAD – The Receiver is currently awaiting instructions from the Ministry of Finance to begin collecting the motor vehicle tax on Curaçao.
According to data, nearly 23,500 motorists had either not paid their tax or made only partial payments by September 2024. Out of the 85,000 registered vehicles on the island, only 53,000 had paid the full amount for the year by that time.
Additionally, there were 14,269 motorists who still needed to pay their tax for the second half of the year.
In response to the ongoing issue, authorities recently launched the "Kita Tur" enforcement action aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws. Under this initiative, vehicles without valid documentation—such as tax stickers, insurance certificates, or inspection records—are removed from the road and stored in Mahuma.
Authorities have emphasized the necessity of this action due to the high number of uninsured or unpaid vehicles, which cause complications in the event of traffic accidents and damage claims.
