WILLEMSTAD - Curaçaoan rapper Edmegelo O. (20), popularly known as "Dindi Spray," was released yesterday after his initial arrest for possession of two firearms. The decision came after two other suspects admitted responsibility for the weapons.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning around 4 a.m. near a nightlife venue on Schottegatweg Oost. Police stopped the vehicle carrying four young men, aged 19 to 22, after observing nervous behavior from the occupants. Upon inspection, officers discovered two firearms, which were subsequently confiscated.
During a hearing, two of the suspects confessed to owning the weapons. This allowed "Dindi Spray's" lawyer, Marie José Eisden, to persuade the commissioner that her client had no involvement with the firearms. The young artist's arrest was immediately suspended.

Earlier this year, on May 18, 2023, the rapper was convicted for possession of three firearms. At that time, he told the court that he carried the weapons due to threats made against him and fear of suffering the same fate as other artists. He received a 36-month sentence, 12 of which were suspended, with a probation period of three years.
During this probation, he is prohibited from committing any criminal offenses, or he will have to serve the suspended sentence. For now, he avoids further penalties due to the co-defendants taking responsibility for the weapons.
