Question hour on refinery agreement postponed

Local | By Correspondent September 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The question hour with Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas regarding the refinery, scheduled for today, has been postponed at the request of the premier. The session, initiated by MP Quincy Girigorie of the PAR, aims to address the "status of the agreement between Refineria di Kòrsou and PdVSA." A new date for the meeting has been set for Tuesday, October 3.

Girigorie considers this an urgent matter, as it involves ongoing negotiations between the refinery and PdVSA, as well as a $1 billion claim that Curaçao has filed against the Venezuelan state oil company.

In his letter, Girigorie stated: “As is widely known, RdK signed a ‘settlement agreement’ with PdVSA on December 19, 2023, based on a claim of approximately one billion dollars that RdK filed in court due to the lack of maintenance of the facilities by PdVSA. In a recent interview on September 12, the prime minister stated that these negotiations have stalled because the person negotiating received another assignment, leading to a halt in the negotiations and a need to restart them.” Girigorie seeks further clarification on the situation.
