WILLEMSTAD - The request for a Question Hour regarding the plan for Caracasbaai has been rejected by the Chair of the Parliament, citing the topic as non-urgent.
The rejection was based on the Chair's belief that the Caracasbaai topic is not relevant. This decision has led to outrage among many, including parliament member Mr. Steven Croes.
Caracasbaai is a popular spot where people come to relax and exercise. On weekends, it is bustling with families and friends, while on weekdays, people come to swim or engage in other forms of physical activity. Without a doubt, Caracasbaai is important to our daily lives, and the current proposed plan has raised concerns and questions among many of our people.
Steven Croes expressed his frustration: "When I saw the presented plan, my first reaction was outrage and then anger. How can such a beautiful part of our island lose its identity to concrete blocks? I support development, healthy recreation, exercise, and nature, but I see no progress in this plan."
For this reason, Croes submitted a request for a 'Question Hour,' a special session where questions can be posed to the responsible minister to provide transparency to the public and to him as a person and parliament member.
One of the requirements for requesting a 'Question Hour' is that the topic must be relevant and current. This subject has been extensively covered in the newspapers. It is relevant based on all the reactions on social media and within the Curaçao community. Nevertheless, it was rejected by the Chair of the Parliament, who deemed it neither urgent nor relevant.
Steven Croes stated, "I find it very unfortunate that a topic of such great importance to our people is not getting the attention it deserves! It is a lack of respect for the people who are concerned and have questions. I don't want to think that we have to double-check whether the system is fair or if the selection of topics is based on arbitrariness."
