WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, the National Detective Agency (Landsrecherche) searched a residence and offices of the Public Works department, in connection with possible corruption involving former employees. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM), there is a chance that arrests will be made in the near future.
During the raid, the Landsrecherche also seized items that are relevant to the investigation.
The issue at the time was that contractors were having difficulty securing contracts and may have paid bribes. The officials who have more information about this were all employed at the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning.
Two officials were even placed on administrative leave after the matter came to light, but they are now back in their roles. However, access to their offices has been denied as they have been locked for the purpose of the investigation.
