WILLEMSTAD - Public Prosecution Curaçao collected over 1.8 million guilders in fines in 2022. This is three hundred thousand guilders above the target of one and a half million guilders.

In addition to collecting fines, the Paga Bo But department, responsible for fine collection, invested in informing citizens about the various options for fine payment and arranging payment plans. Every year, a new campaign is implemented to motivate citizens to pay outstanding fines.

In 2022, the campaign "RILEKS SIN STRES!" was implemented to make people aware during holiday periods that outstanding fines are checked when leaving the island. Therefore, they can go on vacation without stress by paying the fine in advance or arranging a payment plan.

Additionally, the option was provided for an initial payment of 25 guilders and spreading the remaining amount over a maximum of 24 months. According to the Public Prosecution in its annual report, this latter option was widely utilized.
