Public hearings on cost overruns of the new Curaçao Hospital kick off today

Local | By Correspondent February 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - A first for Curaçao: the parliamentary inquiry committee HNO commences four public hearings today as part of an in-depth investigation into the cost overruns in the construction of the new hospital. Throughout the week, eleven more individuals will appear before the committee, with a total of approximately 35 people set to testify under oath.

The committee focuses its attention on a broad range of topics: from the initial choice of the hospital location to the transition from the old to the new hospital, and from construction-related issues to overall government accountability.

Among the invitees for the first week are prominent figures such as Ninon Gerling, the acting secretary of the General Court of Audit Curaçao, former chairman of the CFT Age Bakker, former deputy Humphrey Davelaar, and the initiator of the new hospital, Bob Pinedo.

These hearings, marking a new phase in the investigation, will be broadcast live on various media channels, including the official parliament website, Facebook, and Radio Direct 92.1, starting daily at 9:00 am.

In addition to following the hearings, the public is encouraged to express their opinions on the committee's investigative work by completing a questionnaire available through a QR code on the social media pages of the inquiry committee HNO.
