Prosecutor Seeks Up to Four Years in Prison for Group of Burglars in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent March 27, 2025

WILLEMSTAD The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has requested sentences of up to four years for a group of burglars responsible for a series of break-ins in 2023. The group is accused of targeting businesses such as Omni, Curblue, Kooyman, Licores Maduro, and Zuidwest BV, stealing valuable items including luxury electronics, kitchen appliances, air conditioners, showers, exclusive eyeglasses, and expensive baby products from Zwitsal, which were later sold. The total damage from these thefts is estimated at 800,000 guilders.

According to the prosecutor, the suspects operated in a highly professional and organized manner. They used specialized equipment like radios, drones, and other tools to carry out their crimes, dividing tasks among themselves, with each member playing a specific role in the operation.

The prosecutor emphasized the significant harm these thefts caused to the businesses and their owners, who now face not only financial losses but also concerns about their security. Some suspects have fled the country or are in hiding, but the prosecution has made it clear that this will not prevent them from pursuing legal action against those responsible.
