WILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecutor has demanded a 15-year prison sentence for Shadrach G., who is accused of killing Jardino Hasseth—better known by his nickname "Koko Man"—on April 4, 2024. The two reportedly had a close relationship for many years before a dispute over a damaged quad bike turned deadly.
According to the prosecution, the argument began when Shadrach loaned his quad to Hasseth, who allegedly returned it in a severely damaged state. When Hasseth refused to pay for the repairs, tensions escalated. The two later encountered each other on the street in the Marie Pampoen neighborhood, where a physical altercation broke out. During the struggle, Shadrach pulled a gun and fired.
There are surveillance camera images of the incident, but the footage is not very clear.
The prosecutor stated that there is no evidence of premeditated murder, but did not rule out intent. She argued that Shadrach knowingly accepted the risk that his actions could lead to Hasseth’s death, which constitutes conditional intent under the law.
The prosecutor also highlighted that the weapon used was illegal, and stressed that the victim fought for his life. Shadrach, she said, fired directly at him and then fled the scene.
