WILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecutor’s Office has demanded a prison sentence of 180 days for a 33-year-old man accused of molesting and assaulting a young woman on Curaçao during last year’s Fuik Day festivities. Most of the prison term would be suspended, but the prosecution is also calling for 200 hours of community service.
According to the indictment, the man groped the intern during the annual event. When she confronted him about his behavior, he allegedly attacked her, leaving her with fractures to her nose and cheekbones.
The victim testified via video link before the court in Breda, describing how the incident had deeply affected her life. She explained that she now suffers from insomnia, is afraid to go out alone at night, and is undergoing psychological treatment to cope with the trauma.
The court is expected to deliver its verdict on October 8.
