WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor has called for a 15-year prison sentence for 65-year-old Robert C., who is accused of fatally shooting 69-year-old Cedrick Maduro. The incident took place on February 7 following a dispute over alleged water theft, which escalated into violence.

According to the suspect’s statement, the argument began when his nephew, accompanied by two women, confronted him about stealing water. A heated exchange followed, during which the victim allegedly struck the suspect. Robert C. reportedly became so aggravated that he went inside, retrieved a firearm and a stick, and proceeded to hit and then shoot the victim.

An autopsy revealed that the bullet entered through the victim’s mouth and exited the back of his throat, resulting in a fatal injury. Surveillance footage confirmed that Robert C. acted quickly, drawing his weapon and firing shortly after striking the victim.

The court case was heard under emotional circumstances, with family members of the victim present. Robert C. stated that he did not intend to kill anyone, claiming his goal was to intimidate the victim. During the hearing, the suspect offered an apology to the victim’s family.

Psychological and psychiatric reports suggest that Robert C.’s drug use may have played a role in the incident, increasing the likelihood of repeat behavior. The suspect admitted to using "Tusi" (a form of cocaine) and marijuana on the day of the shooting.

The court will deliver its verdict in three weeks.
