WILLEMSTAD - A group of prison guards has finally received formal recognition for their roles after years of effort and negotiations. At least 30 guards have now been officially appointed to the positions they have been performing for years and have received back payments, including salary increases. This milestone was achieved after lengthy discussions with the ABVO union.
According to ABVO president George Hernandez, these 30 workers, who are part of the middle management at the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK), have finally secured their legal status and back pay after 14 years. One of the main obstacles to formalizing their positions was the incomplete job classification system at the SDKK, which delayed their official appointments.
"This development is important for the group of middle-management prison guards," said Hernandez. However, he pointed out that there is still work to be done for other lower-level guards, for whom the job classification system has yet to be completed.
