Prime Minister Wever-Croes reports fraud at Aruba House

Local | By Correspondent January 19, 2023

ORANJESTAD - The Public Prosecution Service confirms that Prime Minister Wever-Croes has filed a report in connection with possible "irregularities" at the Aruba House in The Hague. The Public Prosecution Service informed this in a press release sent out today.

The reason is a letter sent to the Public Prosecution Service by Members of Parliament Dowers and De Meza of opposition party AVP, asking whether the Prime Minister has filed a report. “Due to the media attention that has arisen, the Public Prosecution Service has decided to publish their response to Mr. Dowers and Mr. De Meza in a press release,” said the Public Prosecution Service.

The Public Prosecution Service does not report whether it is conducting an investigation as a result of the report. It is also not clear whether the complaint is directed against former minister plenipotentiary Guillfred Besaril. There have been persistent rumors about him for some time that he has declared excessive private expenses. Last June, his reappointment was already done when, to everyone's surprise, he resigned and hastily returned to Aruba.

It later became known that employees of the Aruba House had warned Wever-Croes much earlier about the actions of (her party member) Besaril. The Central Accountancy Service has investigated the suspicions, but the prime minister refuses to share the results with Parliament.
