WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, October 31, 2025, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas welcomed Dr. Armstrong Alexis, Deputy Secretary-General of CARICOM, for a courtesy visit at Fort Amsterdam. Dr. Alexis is currently in Curaçao for the 50th Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians, the first official CARICOM conference ever hosted by Curaçao.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Pisas and Dr. Alexis discussed the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and the ongoing regional support efforts being coordinated by CARICOM and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Dr. Alexis also provided a detailed overview of CARICOM’s work and its specialized agencies, including the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Implementing Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
The two leaders further discussed the current security situation in the region, particularly concerning rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela. Dr. Alexis emphasized that the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace, focused on cooperation and regional stability.
The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, reaffirming the spirit of mutual understanding and collaboration between Curaçao and CARICOM. Both parties expressed their intention to maintain continuous dialogue for the benefit of Curaçao and the wider Caribbean community.
