Prime Minister Pisas proposes task force to review beach construction plans

Local | By Correspondent October 15, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has announced the formation of a task force to reassess the controversial construction plans for the beaches at Jeremi and Lagun. During a meeting with local residents last night, Pisas emphasized that this does not necessarily mean the construction will be halted, but he is open to having an independent group reevaluate the plans.

The proposed concrete structures have faced criticism from residents, who argue that they do not fit with the natural landscape of the beaches. Pisas faced significant opposition from the crowd during the meeting, as many voiced their disapproval.

Despite the backlash, with chants of "no no no" echoing throughout the gathering, Pisas maintained his stance. He expressed willingness to establish a working group to meet with stakeholders and seek a compromise, but he stressed the urgency of the matter, noting that the funds for the project must be allocated before the end of the year. Pisas made it clear that, from his perspective, the construction and development should proceed.
