WILLEMSTAD, ROTTERDAM - Prime Minister of Curaçao is focusing on the harbor activities as a boost to the local economy. The Premier was in Rotterdam, the Netherlands to meet with the management of the Port of Rotterdam (PoR). After these meetings he had a tour of the various areas in the port of Rotterdam, together with the PMO delegation and the government and private companies they were in the Netherlands for the Introduction Conference on future developments of the Curaçao port.
“The emphasis of our visit to Port of Rotterdam is primarily on the economic development in our own port, a new horizon for Curaçao. We are now in the Netherlands to map out the Road Map in order to arrive at integrated sustainable developments in the port areas that will be available after the Klesch Group takes over the refinery,” says the Premier.
PoR is a good example of successful stimulation of the economic transition, integrated port development, stimulation of activity, development of sustainable energy and also the circular economy.
In this way, the government creates a solid synergy to stimulate new and innovative economic developments in our port. Just like in Rotterdam, the Cabinet Rhuggenaath wants to use the concept of a "Port of Curaçao" as a catalyst to bring about change and thus overcome the setbacks.
Rotterdam has the largest port in Europe and manages to remain the market leader in the maritime industry with various innovative developments over the years. PoR collaborates with ports around the world, global companies with headquarters in Rotterdam, the Dutch government, universities and knowledge institutes to continue to innovate and thus continue to guarantee the port's economic contribution to the Netherlands.
The port of Rotterdam also has refining and petrochemical industries but is already investing heavily in large renewable energy projects, using the sun, water and hydro.
The Prime Minister says that his visit was certainly very interesting and inspiring.
