WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas received the President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, Mrs. Dineke de Groot, on February 7, 2025. She was accompanied by Mr. Franklin Hanze. This marks Mrs. De Groot’s second visit to Prime Minister Pisas.
The Supreme Court of the Netherlands is the highest court in the country, handling civil, criminal, and tax cases. It also serves as the supreme court for Aruba, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Curaçao. As a court of cassation, it reviews whether the law has been correctly applied in cases and ensures proper legal procedures have been followed.
Mrs. De Groot serves as the president of both the general assembly and the executive board of the Supreme Court organization.
During the visit, several key topics were discussed, including child protection laws, juvenile legislation, the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction, and the role and significance of the Supreme Court within the Kingdom. Additionally, Mrs. De Groot visited various institutions under the Ministry of Justice.
She also commended Curaçao for its recent efforts in implementing international child rights treaties in the past years.
