WILLEMSTAD – Preliminary plans for the development of a new senior living facility on Curaçao have come to light following a Facebook post by outgoing Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Javier Silvania. In the post, Silvania referred to a recent meeting between Stichting Birgen di Rosario and the General Pension Fund of Curaçao (APC).
According to both the foundation and APC, the meeting was an initial exploratory discussion about potential collaboration on senior housing projects. APC is currently evaluating investment scenarios based on demographic trends and long-term housing needs, with the goal of supporting sustainable living solutions for the elderly.
Stichting Birgen di Rosario already manages five elder care facilities and eighteen assisted living units on the island. The organization is now exploring options for expansion, possibly through a new assisted living project on the Habaai site, where demand for elderly housing continues to grow.
While the plans are still in the early stages, the meeting signals increased attention to the needs of Curaçao’s aging population and the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing long-term care and housing challenges.
