Practicing for the major wind turbine and blade transport

Local | By Correspondent August 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Early Saturday morning, the Aqualectra team responsible for transporting the wind turbines conducted another route inspection. They found that the roundabout at Sta. Rosa requires further adjustments. Additionally, modifications are needed at the bend near Zuikertuintje and at the location of Gomez.

Aqualectra's wind energy production at Koraal Tabak is expanding with the addition of five new wind turbines. The transportation from the harbor to the final destination presents a logistical challenge, which will officially begin today.

Two types of trucks are being used for the transport. Regular trucks will carry the smaller components, while longer trucks will transport the large pipes and rotor blades.

At key points, such as the Sta. Rosa roundabout, extra measures have been implemented to ensure smooth transport. The height of the roundabout has been temporarily lowered, and traffic signs have been removed. Additionally, trucks will need to drive on the wrong side of the road at times to safely navigate sharp turns.
