Possible ferry service between Venezuela and Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent December 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - By May, a ferry service between Coro and Curaçao is anticipated, according to a Venezuelan company, Caribbean Fast Ferry. This intention was recently reiterated by a representative of the company.

Currently, transporting individuals by sea is not feasible due to the partial closure of borders with Venezuela. The plan has a chance of success only when the maritime borders are fully reopened. The proposal envisions bi-weekly voyages from the Venezuelan state of Falcon to the island.

The ferry has a capacity for up to 100 passengers, offering a travel time of approximately four to six hours, with costs expected to be more economical than air travel. Since April, the import of vegetables, fruits, and construction materials has been allowed by sea. Additionally, air borders have been reopened since the closure in 2019.
