WILLEMSTAD - Normally, the draft budget is handed over to the President of the Parliament on the second Tuesday of September. However, this year could bring about a change in that routine. According to the Minister of Finance, it seems less practical to present the 2024 budget now since it wouldn't be up to date.
Currently, negotiations are underway between the country and the Netherlands regarding the refinancing of the COVID-19 loans. Additionally, discussions are taking place to find a solution to the Ennia insurance company issue. The outcome of these negotiations will be revealed by the end of September and is expected to have significant implications for the budget. This is why Silvania, the Minister, intends to request a delay from the Council of Ministers.
While the submission of the budget is legally regulated, it's not possible to deviate from the set date arbitrarily.
