Port will receive two new container cranes

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao port will soon have two new cranes available for handling containers.

The need for new cranes has long been mentioned during negotiations between the government-owned Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) and the operator of the port, the Curaçao Port Services (CPS). That way you can work faster.

The cranes have been mounted on a ship and are en route to Curaçao since Monday.

The Kalmar cranes are completely new and come from Finland. The factory parts come from Europe and the cranes are assembled almost completely in China. "Not completely assembled, because otherwise they will not fit under the bridge, says a CPS representative. “They are assembled in China for three quarters. The rest takes place in Curaçao.”

After that, the technical and electrical part and installation takes place and the cranes also have to be tested. Staff must also be trained. They are totally different cranes than what is currently being used.

The various parties in the port are pleased that the expansion is now coming.
