WILLEMSTAD – The official reintroduction of Politur, Curaçao’s dedicated tourism police unit, took place yesterday in the heart of Punda. The event marked a new chapter for the organization, which has been operating for over thirteen years with a core mission to ensure safety and provide assistance in tourist zones.
Politur’s responsibilities include maintaining public order, preventing crime in popular visitor areas, and offering support to tourists who may be involved in incidents. After undergoing a multi-year restructuring process, the unit is now making a comeback with enhanced visibility and clearer identification.
During the ceremony, the new uniforms, vehicles, and rebranded logo of Politur were unveiled, symbolizing the organization’s modernized image and renewed dedication. Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof was present and spoke at the event, stressing the essential role Politur plays in safeguarding the tourism sector.
“Security in tourism is more important than growth itself,” said Minister Middelhof. “Politur serves as a bridge between our island and the thousands of guests we welcome each year.”
Politur’s headquarters remains located on the grounds of Sambil, but the agency will soon expand its operations to Westpunt and the Handelskade, ensuring broader island-wide coverage in key tourist areas.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Curaçao’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination, especially as the island continues to grow in popularity among international visitors.
