WILLEMSTAD - On Tuesday, June 4, 2025, the tourism police unit POLITUR received six new vehicles funded through criminal asset recovery funds. POLITUR has existed for over 13 years and has continuously served not only the tourism sector but also the wider community. Its core tasks include prevention, providing immediate assistance, and aftercare for tourists visiting the island.
POLITUR is currently undergoing a reorganization phase aimed at expanding its capacity and upgrading equipment to better fulfill its duties professionally. Given the steady growth in tourism on the island, investing in visitor safety during their stay is essential.

As part of this effort, Justice Minister Mr. Shalten Hato allocated one million guilders in 2024 to support the foundation, enabling it to improve its operations and provide appropriate services to tourists. With this funding, POLITUR's management acquired six new vehicles: two Toyota Hilux pickup trucks and four Toyota RAV4s. Currently, 90 percent of POLITUR’s vehicle fleet consists of leased cars, so acquiring its own vehicles was a necessary and strategic move.
Recently, POLITUR also received two new bicycles, increasing its total bike count to six.
In addition, both the main POLITUR office located on the Sambil premises and the Westpunt station are being renovated.
Further investments will include new uniforms, drones, and communication equipment for the team. Ongoing training for POLITUR personnel is also planned. The unit will soon become more accessible through social media, making it easier for both locals and visitors to reach them.
The leadership of POLITUR expressed deep gratitude to the government—particularly the Ministries of Justice and Economic Development—for believing in the foundation’s vision.
POLITUR remains committed to working alongside its partners, such as the Tourism Office and the Curaçao Police Force, to make the island safer and more secure.
