Political party MAN-PIN expresses concern over rising gun ownership among youth in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent December 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The increasing visibility of weapons in the hands of young people on Curaçao has raised significant concerns for the political party MAN-PIN, which views this trend as a serious threat to national security. The party is alarmed by the potential consequences of the growing gun possession among youth.

Since the beginning of 2024, MAN-PIN has observed a disturbing rise in gun ownership, frequently discovered during police operations. The party points out that minors are often caught with firearms. "The situation is concerning, especially given the increasing role of weapons in the daily lives of young people," said a representative from MAN-PIN.

The party has criticized the government for its passive stance in defending police officers and the Public Prosecution Service, which, according to MAN-PIN, are on the frontlines in addressing this societal issue.

MAN-PIN is calling on the government to take stronger action against illegal gun possession and prioritize strengthening community safety. The party supports initiatives aimed at improving security during the holiday season and advocates for a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal weapons.

"Trust in the government and the justice system is at stake," warned the political party, urging the government to take the lead in providing protection and setting a good example.
