Police warn of increased alcohol checks during festive month

WILLEMSTAD - The police will conduct more alcohol checks in traffic during the festive month, as announced by the Curaçao Police Force in a press release. 

According to the CPD, alcohol consumption tends to increase towards the end of the year, especially during the holidays. The police state that this poses risks for those driving under the influence on public roads, as well as for other road users. 

In 2022, the police reported 35 traffic accidents involving drivers under the influence of alcohol who were arrested. So far this year, there have been 52 such accidents, with several weeks remaining before the end of the year. 

The CPD, like the Curaçao Medical Center, is calling on drivers to designate a designated driver (BOB - a sober person) to avoid situations that may lead to regret, stating, "This way, we can avoid situations that we will regret." 

These checks are part of the 'End of the Year Without Accidents' plan ('Kaba aña sin hazaña').
