Local | By Correspondent June 3, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The police in Curaçao have issued an urgent appeal to the three suspects in the murder case on Reigerweg to turn themselves in. The murder of Antonius Johannes Maria Hendrika Brood (49), a member of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (Royal Police), has shocked the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands. Brood was shot during a brutal robbery at his home on Reigerweg on the night of May 31 to June 1.

According to spokesperson Maurits Rosalina of the Curaçao Police Corps, it is crucial that the suspects voluntarily report to a police station. The police guarantee a fair trial for those who surrender. Rosalina also urges the suspects' family members to convince them to come forward.

Additionally, the police are seeking cooperation from local residents with security cameras along the route from Reigerweg to Elishastraat. The victim's vehicle, an orange Chevrolet Beat B 36-0, was found intact on Elishastraat in Noord Sapaté. Residents are asked to check their camera footage for the period from 11:00 PM on Friday, May 31, to Saturday, June 1. Information can be provided anonymously.

The murder occurred during a violent break-in where three perpetrators entered the home, demanded money and car keys, and shot the victim in the face. Neighbors heard a woman crying for help and alerted the police. Upon arrival, the police found the victim severely injured on the porch at the back of the house. He was rushed to the hospital where he fought for his life.

The victim was temporarily in Curaçao to assist with border controls. The police consider this case very serious and brutal and are calling on the community to cooperate for a swift resolution.
