Police Urge Residents to Strengthen Home Security Amid Rise in Burglaries

Local | By Correspondent November 26, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Police Force (KPC) is calling on residents to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to prevent home burglaries. In a press statement, the police outlined several simple but effective measures that can make homes less appealing to intruders.

According to the KPC, proper exterior lighting is one of the first lines of defense. The force also advises homeowners to trim or remove high vegetation that could provide hiding places for burglars.

Residents are urged to store away tools, ladders, and other items that could be used to break into a property. The police stress that windows and doors should be securely locked whenever residents leave their homes — even for a short period. Strong locks on gates and fences play an important role as well.

For homes equipped with alarm systems, the KPC emphasizes the importance of activating them at all times.

Cameras and Community Awareness Are Key

The police note that security cameras can greatly enhance protection, especially when combined with an alert and cooperative neighborhood. Residents planning to travel are encouraged to ask someone they trust to keep an eye on their home and check it regularly.

The KPC reminds the public that reporting suspicious activity helps prevent crime and strengthens safety across the community.
