Willemstad – A tragic accident occurred early this morning at approximately 00:54 AM on Schottegatweg East, near Kaya W.F.G. Mensing. The Central Police Station received reports of a severe crash involving a vehicle that collided with a traffic light pole.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found a vehicle with four injured occupants. Tragically, one of the passengers, seated beside the driver, was already showing no signs of life.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was traveling at high speed eastbound on Schottegatweg towards Punda. For reasons still unclear, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road onto the right shoulder before crashing into a traffic light pole.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the emergency room in critical condition. The passenger sitting beside the driver, identified as 16-year-old Thishaily Esmatil Olivo Rodriguez from the Dominican Republic, tragically died at the scene due to the multiple injuries sustained. Two other passengers seated in the back of the vehicle also required medical attention.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
