Police more active during the festive month, with increased and stricter controls

Local | By Correspondent December 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The police will intensify their checks this month, both in traffic and in general. More officers will be present on the streets, and the police hope to be engaged in response to concerns in neighborhoods or from businesses. This information comes from the "Relato di Dia" (Report of the Day) held on Thursday by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) and the Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato.

The KPC aims to be more vigilant regarding suspicious activities that may be related to robberies, for example. The police will conduct stricter checks on weapon possession, drug sales, and other illegal activities. "Especially at strategic points, the police will be more visible," said Police Commissioner Jules Ilario.

In addition to checks, extra attention will be given to burglary and robberies, and in traffic, there will be a focus on speeding. If vehicle papers are not in order, the owner runs the risk of having the vehicle confiscated until January 10.

The increased police activity is part of the action plan 'Kaba aña sin hazaña' (End the year without accidents). Collaboration involves the KPC, the Curaçao Militia, the Volunteer Corps Curaçao, Customs, and the Royal Military Police.

The plan runs from December 11 this year to January 7, 2024.
