WILLEMSTAD – A targeted traffic control operation on Tuesday morning resulted in 52 fines being issued to truck drivers, police reported. The inspections, held between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. along the Winston Churchillweg and the Weg naar Westpunt, focused on trucks transporting sand, gravel, and bulky waste that could pose hazards if spilled onto the roadway.
In total, 63 trucks were checked, with more than 82 percent found to be in violation of regulations. Offenses ranged from invalid paperwork and unpaid road taxes to missing license plates and failure to use proper tarpaulins to secure loads.
Two vehicles were in such poor condition that they were escorted by police to the Department of Public Works for further handling.
Authorities emphasized that these inspections will continue in the coming weeks, though exact dates will not be announced in advance. The police noted that the measures are aimed at improving road safety and ensuring heavy vehicles comply with regulations.
