WILLEMSTAD - The police are concerned about the increase in the number of hit-and-run cases. The majority of drivers who leave after a collision do not appear to have the required papers.
Police spokesman Imro Zwerwer said that during a recent press conference. Zwerwer reported on the past three months. From October to December 12, the Curaçao Police Force registered 29 cases of hit-and-run.
“A part of it has been resolved, the rest is still under investigation,” said Zwerwer. It appears that the people who leave after a collision often "do not have their vehicle papers in order”.
Either a part of the required documents is missing or the driver cannot submit any documents. Zwerwer points out that driving after an accident is punishable and the offender runs the risk of a minimum of two months in prison or a fine of a maximum of 5,000 guilders.
