WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, August 4, 2023, around 01:26 am, the Police Central received information from a citizen indicating that their partner had been shot with a firearm in Groot Kwartier and was on the way to the hospital.
From the police investigation, it was later revealed that some men had gone to a snack bar on Comanchestraat, where they robbed the owner's vehicle, which was parked there.
Afterward, the suspects attempted to rob a couple who were in their car in the neighborhood but were unsuccessful as the latter managed to escape. The couple then pursued the robbers, and in Groot Kwartier, these individuals fired shots at the couple's vehicle, resulting in one of the occupants being injured.
While the robbers were being pursued by the couple, they had an accident with the stolen vehicle at a car wash on Kaya Wladimir "Coco" Balentien, which prevented them from continuing their escape.
At the scene in Groot Kwartier, the police confiscated the car that the robbers had stolen, and later also the one belonging to the couple, which had received several bullet holes.
At the hospital, the female victim, who had meanwhile arrived with her partner, received advanced medical assistance.
The case is under investigation, and there is an appeal to any citizen who may have witnessed something related to this incident to contact the police at 917 or the anonymous line 108.
