WILLEMSTAD - Over the course of one month, the police have arrested a total of 18 suspects in connection with the theft of cars, bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles. Morning newspaper Èxtra reported on the arrests, noting that this past Monday, 21-year-old G.H.D., born in Curaçao, was taken into custody in relation to a series of vehicle thefts that occurred in April and May in the Noord Sta Rosa area. Previously, four other arrests had been made in connection with this case.
The neighborhoods targeted by the thieves included Montaña Abou, Noord Zapateer, Kirindongo Abou, Noord Sta Rosa, and Ma Louisa.
In addition, one suspect was arrested for thefts in the Schottegatweg Noord area. Two men, aged 19 and 24, were detained for stealing scooters and bicycles in Cas Cora. A 19-year-old was arrested for stealing scooters and cars in Seru Grandi, and a 28-year-old man for car theft in Hubert Schoopstraat. Four men, aged 28, 26, 19, and 28, were apprehended for car theft in Noord Sta Rosa, and two 26-year-old men for car theft in Cas Grandi.
Regarding scooter thefts in Montaña Abou, four individuals, including a 12-year-old minor, were arrested. The others were aged 34, 18, and 42. A 24-year-old man was arrested for scooter thefts in Schottegatweg Noord, while a 40-year-old and a 21-year-old were arrested for stealing mopeds and cars in Montaña Abou and Noord Sta Rosa.
Last year, 292 insured vehicles were stolen in Curaçao, 288 were vandalized, and 21 were set on fire.
