WILLEMSTAD - The police are in the early stages of preparations for Carnival 2024. Multiple police chiefs are coming together under the name "Staf Grootschalig Bijzonder Optreden" (Large-Scale Special Operations Staff) to discuss potential scenarios during the carnival parades. This was reported by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC).
In addition to the discussions, the police state that exercises are being conducted to ensure they are well-prepared for any incidents.
"Carnival is an event with a large number of people, not only in terms of traffic but also with large groups of people at specific places and times. It is therefore important to make plans so that when incidents or emergencies occur, the police can act promptly. This could include a potential evacuation and ensuring the safety of people and property as much as possible," according to the KPC.
The police hope that no unusual situations will arise and that everyone, both participants and spectators, can enjoy the parade safely.
The exercises and discussions will last for three days.
