WILLEMSTAD - The iconic Plaza Hotel, located at the entrance of the Sint Annabaai, has been completely stripped in preparation for its demolition. Contractor MNO carried out the work on behalf of the owner, the General Pension Fund of Curaçao (APC).
Last month, reusable materials from the former hotel were sold during a special event called MarketPlaza. The initiative drew significant interest, with attendees excited to take home a "piece of Plaza" as a keepsake.
The proceeds from the sale were donated to the Daily Meal Program foundation, enabling the preparation of 1,000 meals for vulnerable individuals across Curaçao.
The MarketPlaza event was organized in collaboration with students from the University of Curaçao (UoC) as part of the SustainaBUL program, which promotes sustainability and social impact. By focusing on repurposing materials, the event ensured that many items from the Plaza Hotel found new life.
The Plaza Hotel’s planned demolition marks the end of an era, but its legacy continues through its contribution to sustainability and support for the local community.
