Playa Lagun temporarily closed due to construction at new TUI Blue Curaçao hotel

| By Correspondent March 12, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Playa Lagun near Santa Martha will be temporarily closed to the public due to construction activities related to the development of the new TUI Blue Curaçao hotel.

According to the hotel organization, the measure is necessary to prevent safety risks for visitors while construction and renovation work continues around the site.

The closure comes as the Easter period approaches, a time when many residents traditionally head to beaches across the island to camp and celebrate the holiday weekend. The Santa Martha bay area is among the popular locations during the period from April 3 to 6.

Construction and renovation activities are currently taking place on and around the property as preparations continue for the opening of the hotel. Building materials, tools and heavy equipment are present in several areas near the hotel and the adjacent public beach, making the area unsafe for visitors.

To prevent accidents, it was decided to temporarily close the beach to the public. TUI Blue stated that the closure is a precautionary measure taken strictly for safety reasons.

The beach is expected to reopen to the public during the 2026 summer holiday period. By that time, the beach area is also expected to have undergone improvements and upgrades.

The hotel organization has asked the public for understanding, noting that the construction work is intended to create a safer and more attractive beach area for both residents and visitors in the future.
