WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas presented his government’s “Nation Building” plan this week during the official visit of Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten to Curaçao.
According to the Curaçao government, the multi-year program is designed to improve living conditions and public safety in vulnerable neighborhoods across the island through a community-focused approach.
The initiative formed a central part of the second day of Jetten’s working visit to Curaçao on May 14.
The government stated that the Nation Building program focuses on poverty reduction, improving security, and creating opportunities for vulnerable groups within society.
Following the presentation, Pisas and Jetten visited Seru Fortuna, one of the neighborhoods selected as a pilot area for the project.
During the visit, both prime ministers received explanations about the social challenges affecting the community as well as the measures planned to improve quality of life and security in a structural and long-term manner.
The Curaçao government described the Nation Building initiative as an important component of Pisas’ broader policy agenda aimed at addressing social inequality and long-standing community problems on the island.
According to the government, earlier discussions between Pisas and Jetten also covered issues such as food security, poverty reduction, and the remigration of young Curaçaoans back to the island.
The working visit concluded at Aqualectra’s battery park, where both prime ministers jointly unveiled an artwork symbolizing cooperation within the Kingdom in the field of sustainable energy.
