Pisas Cabinet ignores Financial Supervision Board’s advice on Curaçao Medical Center’s financial crisis

WILLEMSTAD - The Pisas Cabinet has chosen to disregard the advice of the Financial Supervision Board (Cft) concerning the handling of the financial risks associated with the Curaçao Medical Center's precarious situation. Despite the government's efforts to address the hospital's growing deficits, their approach has been deemed overly optimistic by the Cft.

In a recent letter, the Cft highlighted that the proposed budget amendment fails to ensure compliance with the Kingdom Act on Financial Supervision. Consequently, the Cft has advised against presenting the amendment to Parliament in its current form.

The letter outlined six specific recommendations for the government to follow. Should these not be implemented, there is a significant likelihood that the Kingdom Council of Ministers will impose compliance through a directive. The Cft has already expressed its concerns to the Kingdom Council of Ministers.

As the financial situation at the Curaçao Medical Center continues to worsen, the need for a realistic and effective solution becomes increasingly urgent. The Pisas Cabinet's response to the Cft's recommendations will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
