WILLEMSTAD - A petition against the planned new developments on the beaches of Jeremi and Lagun has already gathered nearly 11,000 signatures within just 48 hours. Dennis Klaus of Fundashon Pro Monumento announced the milestone on Tuesday evening, stating that this shows that approximately 11,000 people oppose the government's construction plans. Klaus emphasized that the government should reconsider whether it should move forward with these projects.

A demonstration is set to take place on the beach of Jeremi on Thursday, October 10, starting at 11 a.m.

The petition was launched following the announcement of construction plans for the beaches of Jeremi and Lagun, which signatories believe are incompatible with the small-scale, natural character of the area. Fundashon Pro Monumento has also voiced opposition to the development plans for Caracasbaai and Zakito. On behalf of all signatories, the organizations Amigu di Tera and Fundashon Pro Monumento are urging the government to stop "destroying nature and traditional beaches and bays."
