Patients at CMC mainly dissatisfied with waiting times and short time nurses spend at the bedside

Local | By Correspondent September 13, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Nearly seven out of ten patients admitted to CMC are dissatisfied with the waiting times they had to endure for admission or with the information provided regarding medication side effects. There is also dissatisfaction with the amount of time nurses spend at the patient's bedside.

These figures stem from a patient satisfaction survey conducted at CMC. The hospital aims to achieve a satisfaction rate of eighty percent or higher in all aspects of care.

The survey data was collected from July 1 to September 8 and is analyzed daily to implement improvements aimed at raising the scores. Patients receive this survey within a week of their visit to the outpatient clinic or hospital, ranging from a few hours to a few days.

CMC received an average score of 8.2 from over 250 admitted patients in the study and a score of 8.3 from almost 1,400 people who visited the outpatient clinic.

Solutions

To address issues with waiting times, CMC is hiring more surgical assistants and has begun training its own surgical assistants. Additionally, the hospital is standardizing nursing processes and optimizing nurse availability in all departments.

For outpatient care, proactive information is provided regarding waiting times in the waiting area. Process optimization and alignment of healthcare demand (number of patients) with specialist availability are also being pursued.
