Partial Services Resume at Curaçao Tax Office After Ransomware Attack

WILLEMSTAD – A limited part of the services offered by the Curaçao Tax Office resumed this past Monday following last week’s ransomware attack. The majority of the Tax Office’s operations, however, remain paralyzed as a result of the cyberattack, which occurred last Thursday.

Minister of Finance Javier Silvania confirmed on Friday that the Tax Office had been hacked and that a ransom demand may have been made. Authorities are still investigating the nature and extent of the attack, and cybersecurity teams are working to determine how deeply the systems were compromised.

Only Vehicle Tax Department Reopened

While most departments remain offline, the Motor Vehicle Tax Department reopened on Monday. Services currently available include vehicle title transfers, pre-scheduled appointments with collection officers, and electronic payments at the in-house cashiers.

The Tax Office cautioned that it may take several more days before full operations are restored.

This incident marks a serious breach of government IT infrastructure and raises concerns about digital security and public service continuity on the island. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
