WILLEMSTAD - For the second consecutive week, the planned parliamentary question hour regarding the status of the agreement between Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) and the Venezuelan state oil company PdVSA has been postponed.
Initially scheduled for Thursday, September 26, the debate was first delayed to October 3 and has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 8.
The postponement was announced shortly before the session was set to begin. On Thursday, members of parliament were informed that Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, who was set to lead the discussion, was ill. According to parliamentary sources, Pisas is unable to participate due to health issues.
The question hour had been requested by Quincy Girigorie, the PAR party leader, following recent statements by Pisas. The prime minister previously declared that the agreement with PdVSA, which had never been formally reviewed by parliament, was off the table. This announcement sparked concern, as the deal holds significant implications for Curaçao's refinery and economy.
Girigorie emphasized the urgency of the matter in his request, noting that the uncertainty surrounding the RdK agreement is causing widespread concern. He is calling for clarity on the impact of the failed deal, its financial implications for the country, and the ongoing lawsuit against PdVSA.
